Tutor Professional Development and Training
Tutor Professional Development is at the heart of Bay Area Tutoring Association (BATA), mission, vision and Theory of Change. The BATA Tutor Professional Development curriculum is an integral component of the Department of Apprenticeship Tutor Apprenticeship Program, Southern Alameda County Consortium (SACC) Tutor Apprentice Workgroup, New Haven Adult School and Ohlone College Strong Workforce Partnership – Education Careers Pathway Project.
It has been used by successful after school programs, private tutoring companies and individuals to launch private tutoring businesses, ensure students develop the will/skill and tutoring performance metrics in the following areas; Tutoring Ability, Effectiveness, Engagement, Content Management, Student Academic Productivity, Student Engagement.
Our Tutor Professional Development curriculum consists of 12 training workshops segmented into 4 interchangeable units.

Why Tutor Professional Development Matters?
- Tutor Professional Development is a non traditional pathway into the following education careers; Paraprofessional, Substitute Teacher, Teacher Aide, Behavioral Health Therapist, Special Ed Teacher and Teacher.
- The academic achievement gap continues to widen and extended learning time with well-trained tutors has shown to make a difference.
- Academic tutoring entrepreneurial and employment opportunities have been defined as a Bright Outlook occupation by O*NET. The job openings in the tutoring industry are projected to grow faster than average, employment increase of 10% or more, over the period 2016-2026 and/or have 100,000 or more job openings over the same period.*
