Including students with learning differences in general education classrooms has benefits and challenges.  On Thursday, August 18, a workshop for students with special education needs was held at the Sobrato Center for Non-Profits in Redwood City from 1:30 PM until 3:00 PM.  The event was presented by Opening Doors PTA, with speaker Dr. Anne Spillane, Ph.D, a full time Assistant Professor for the School of Special Education at Brandman University.  Dr. Spillane shared her strategies in helping students with special needs be successful in the mainstream environment.

Topics of discussion included:
-unique needs of students with learning differences -supportive strategies
-curriculum modifications

Parents, teachers, therapists, caregivers, and anyone interested in special education were invited to attend.  The workshop was free and open to public.
