On January 30, 2018 at the Sobrato Center for Non-Profits on 350 Twin Dolphin Dr. in Redwood City, Opening Doors PTA hosted a free IEP workshop. This event was part of an outreach effort of OCRA (Office of Clients’ Rights and Advocacy) to serve the Asian American community.
After several years of successfully targeting Spanish-speaking parent groups, the Office of Clients’ Rights Advocacy (OCRA) turned its attention to the Asian-American community, which is unfortunately underrepresented. We invited attorney Ms Karis Daggs to be our speaker, with real-time Cantonese translation.
The session covered children’s special education rights, an overview of rights in the IEP process, evaluations, compliance complaints, due process hearing rights to an interpreter at an IEP meeting, and requesting documents in the parents’ native language.
OCRA is part of Disability Rights California.
